Rev. David Turner, Senior Pastor

David was born in Greenville, Texas and was a cradle Methodist at his little home church of Salem Kinser United Methodist Church. He graduated from Greenville High School in 1973 and then proceeded to work on a degree in Guidance Counseling in what was then East Texas State University. In 1977 he transferred to Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky and completed his bachelor's degree in Psychology in 1979. From there he began his study for a Master of Pastoral Counseling at Asbury Theological Seminary later transferring to SMU, Perkins School of Theology were he completed his Masters of Divinity degree in 1985.
David served as youth director, associate pastor, and intern while going to school at Perkins. After seminary he served at Trinity UMC in Wichita Falls (9 years), Lakewood UMC (3 years), New World UMC in Garland (6 years), First UMC Irving (5 years), and Floral Heights UMC in Wichita Falls (5 years). Highlights include:
  • Relocating Trinity UMC and watching the church grow from 80 in Worship to near 300.
  • Overseeing the building of a gym and fellowship hall with classrooms at New World UMC.
  • Directing a capital campaign that paid down a $2.8 million debt at First Irving to $300,000.
  • Helping put together a multi-million dollar vision for restoring Floral Heights UMC whose first phase will be implemented Summer 2016.

David married Joy in June of 1979 and they have been together now for 36 years. they have three grown children that are all married now. David and Joy are the proud grandparents of nine grandchildren, 7 boys and 2 girls.
